Today I got back from a mini-break and recieved a phonecall. It was the kind of phonecall we all hope not to get, yet know we will get it one day in some way shape or form. My mum and dad told us that our family cat, Moses, had died.
Not many people care as much if a pet dies, some people just shrug it off. But my cats are more than just pets to me; they are true companions, a kind of family member that has no word to describe them - pet is not sufficient. They are equals in my house hold, recieve as much love and care as any human being, and it is the guests who are to respect my cats, not the other way around.
Moses was the eldest of our cats, he was a true warrior and gaurdian - he died as he lived: protecting his family. He once saved our neighbour from a brown snake (their bite can be fatal) but this time, he was not so lucky. He died trying to fend off another snake, only this time he was biten and my parents found him dead on the verandah. I have not seen Mo since Christmas, and am sad that I will now never see his again - he was a grumpy, fat, but lovable cat who enjoyed his yogurt immensly.
I will make a photo tribute later and post it on youtube.

Here is a picture my friend Ashlee (

Thanks Ash!

Our family cat died a year ago of liver failure, it was an old cat. I wasn't very emotionally attached to it but ironically, at the vet where it was put down, the 2 family members who claimed to be the least attached broke down in tears while those that were more attached didn't. I was in Vancouver the entire time so I heard about it over the phone.
Obviously its a tough time, but always remember what Mo did for your family and what your family did for him, there are a lot of irresponsible pet owners in the world and Mo from what you've told me Mo lead a long, pleasant life with good people. Feral or in the wild or with irresponsible people his life would have been a lot worse and a lot shorter! So I'd take some comfort in that.

In my life, particularly back in Europe we had a few cats, to hunt mices and rats and whatnot. Only one has ever found a spot in my heart, and she was a force unto herself.
I still miss her sometimes.

Just a Stalker in Hell...
Mo almost was a stray; mum found him as a kitten, starving and begging for food at her work. We suspect that he was either actually dumped, or his mother died, because he was far too young to be away from his parent (he was about 3 weeks old). Taking him in and giving him a home has made me feel better, knowing that he very well could have been a feral and died at a very young age. If Mo were to live his life over again, there isn't a thing I would have done different (except maybe put a padlock on the bird cage...).
I'm going to write a biography of Mo's life, not sure whether to do it as a story or just as a plain ol' biography type of thing; there's alot to tell about that little pirate. It just crossed my mind, I'll do the biography first, then write a story; that way, I can have a factual version of his life, and then a more creative one with things added (I'm sure he's had many adventures than I even know about!).
